Vaccinations

Annual flu vaccine
Influenza (flu) is potentially serious, and the symptoms are much more severe than the
common cold. Flu can affect people differently and can cause severe complications including pneumonia, ear infections, sinus infections and worsening of chronic medical conditions, such as congestive heart failure, asthma, or diabetes.

An annual seasonal flu vaccine is the best way to help reduce the risk of getting flu and
every year a vaccine is developed to offer protection against the strains of flu, the World
Health Organisation(WHO) predicts.

Benefits to Employers:
• Reduces cost by decreasing time missed from work to get vaccinated
• Reduces cost by reducing absences due to illness, resulting in improved productivity
• Vaccination often already covered under employee health plans
• Improves morale

Benefits to Employees:
• Reduces absences due to sickness and doctor visits
• Improves health
• Convenience
• Improves morale

Hepatitis B vaccinations – to provide protection against transmission of Hepatitis B in
occupations that pose a higher risk following completion of a thorough risk assessment.
Three doses of the vaccine are required followed by a blood test to check for immunity.

OUR SERVICES

Management referrals – absence management support

Management referrals may be suggested/recommended where there is a concern about an employee’s health, performance (where there are health implications) or level of sickness absence. An occupational health assessment can provide impartial and objective advice and information that can assist both the employee and employer in management of these concerns.

The consultations are conducted by a Specialist Nurse or Physician who will complete a thorough assessment of the employees health and how it may impact their fitness to undertake their substantive role; taking into account the applicability of the Equality Act 2010.

Pre-employment medicals

Following an offer of employment; some roles require specific medical assessments to be completed. Depending on the criterion required for the role will determine the level of assessment

required to be completed.

A pre-employment assessment can include a paper screening assessment to identify any potential health related issues or a face to face assessment – thereafter OH provide the company with a certificate regarding the employees fitness for the proposed role.
